In the final episode of our 'Coping through COVID' run, and indeed this series of Fantastic Noise, Terry speaks with Deputy Managing Editor of Radio X, Neil Fearn, to find out more about how one of the biggest commercial radio brands in the UK responded to the coronavirus pandemic. This was recorded in late summer 2020, before the announcement of 'lockdown 2'.
Fantastic Noise is a podcast about audio production. Recorded partly at Terry's home, partly in the Radio LaB 97.1FM studios at the University of Bedfordshire. Produced and presented by Terry Lee.

Working with journalism students, Terry has learnt that there is no substitute for the experience of seeing a huge professional newsroom setting with 100+ people working inside, making the news happen.
At Sky News, in their Osterley complex, they have one of THOSE newsrooms. And in one part of that newsroom, is the radio team. Amongst other things, that radio team is responsible for IRN, Independent Radio News, who provide 2 minute long hourly news bulletins for radio stations across the UK, 24 hours a day, all year round. Terry spoke with Kiran Bhangal & Annie Joyce (who produces the Sky News Daily podcast).

Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. Clearly these organisations are not radio stations or podcasts. But yet they have become crucial to promoting audio brands. Social Media jobs are very important ones in radio now. Steve Ferdinando spoke with us about his role at Radio X as a Senior Social Media Editor, and how it links in with the brand and output of the station.

This is a special 'live' episode of the podcast, recorded with an audience as part of the University of Bedfordshire's #BedsTalks series before the Coronavirus pandemic closed the University teaching spaces.
Terry speaks with:
- Jeremy Howe - Editor of BBC Radio 4's ‘The Archers’, the world’s longest running drama, with around 19,000 episodes since 1951. In February 2019, the contemporary rural drama was voted as the second best radio programme of all time by a panel of experts.
- Adam Jarrell - from 'The Offensive', an award-winning mockumentary podcast that follows fictional Premier League club Ashwood City FC. He answers questions about the challenges of creating new audio drama and establishing an audience without a radio station backing.
